Runaway Thursday Part IV; Wander where to go

I wandered.

It was late and cold and I couldnt stay up all night. I walked to an outside plaza, which was sad and cold like everything else about that night. It seemed like no one would really come and bother me so i lay down on a wall nearby and tucked my shirt into my pants and put my bag under my head. I was asleep in minutes, but not completly asleep. There was still some conscious part that stayed awake, a part of me that couldnt rest. I got up a half hour later.

I was bored. I wondered some more. My legs led my body, tugging to keep me going forward. I looked in all the closed shop windows. Hair salons, bakeries, bars. What did this place look like when the sun was up? I walked. In one ally i passed by I saw a pile of flat cardboard boxes. My newly found homeless instinct kicked in. I riped of a peice and found a paper cup on the ground. Twenty minutes later I was at an outside train stop with my makeshift sign that read " Hungrey and Homeless, please help" and my cup by my side.

No one was there, and I had no idea when the next train would arrive, so i waited. A hispanic man came along. He sat on my bench, and stared a little. I thought he would put some change in my cup, but he had other intentions.

I dont know much spanish, but the little that I do know definatelty helped me. First off he asked if I had a home. I shook my head. Then he invited me to his house, and said that he'd give me money. I could only laugh. Were Trenton girls that easy? Did one only have to make a simple offer to get a girl in bed? He wasnt done yet. He wanted to know my age and wether i had a boyfriend or not. I was done entertaining his questions, so I left to begg for change between car lanes.

I was pretty successful. Pride was what I felt. Here I am, proud, without a place to stay or food in my stomach. I was proud.
